Honda and Ford Announce Auto Recalls By Tod Aronovitz | 03/18/13 | 0 Comment

Honda Recalls 2005 Honda Pilot, 2005 & 2006 Acura MDX and 2005 Acura RL

Potential malfunctions of the Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) system are at the center of a Honda recall in the U.S. that involves approximately 101,000 Honda Pilot vehicles, 60,000 Acura MDX vehicles and 21,000 Acura RL vehicles from the 2005 model year as well as 800 Acura MDX vehicles from the 2006 model year.

A possible defect on the VSA system could cause the vehicles to brake without the driver doing so, or brake with more force than the driver intended, increasing the risk for crash. To resolve unexpected brake activation, Honda and Acura dealers will install a new electrical sub-harness, free of charge.

In addition, Honda will inspect approximately 51,000 of the included Pilot vehicles to ensure that an electrical ground bolt for the VSA system is properly tightened, and will torque the bolt if necessary, free of charge.

Owners of all affected vehicles are encouraged to take their vehicles to an authorized dealer. Mailed notification to customers will arrive in mid-April 2013. Owners can also determine if their vehicles need repair by visiting www.recalls.honda.com and www.recalls.acura.com, or by calling (800) 999-1009 for Honda owners or (800) 382-2238 for Acura owners, and selecting option 4.

Ford Recalls 2013 Focus, C-Max and Escape Vehicles and
2004-2007 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey Vehicles

2013 Focus, C-Max and Escape Vehicles

Ford is recalling 2013 Focus and C-Max vehicles built from November 16–21, 2012, and 2013 Escape vehicles manufactured from November 14–21, 2012. The left rear door child lock, which was built incorrectly, may not engage when activated. The door can be opened from the inside, as a result, increasing the risk of injury to an unrestrained child. Ford will notify all affected owners beginning March 25, 2013, and dealers will inspect the affected rear door latches, and replace them as necessary, free of charge.

2004-2007 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey Vehicles

Ford is also recalling certain model year 2004-2007 Freestar and Mercury Monterey vehicles sold in, or currently registered in: Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia.

Originally equipped with a stowable third row seat and manufactured between March 24, 2003 and November 7, 2006, the seat’s anchoring mechanism can experience corrosion and not fully latch into proper seating position, potentially causing injury in the event of a crash. Ford will notify all affected owners beginning March 27, 2013, and dealers will install new third row seat latch mounting brackets, free of charge.
