HYDRAVAX Dietary Supplements Recalled by South Florida Manufacturer By Tod Aronovitz | 12/10/13 | 0 Comment

Sunrise, Florida-based IQ Formulations is issuing a precautionary and proactive product recall of its dietary supplement product, HYDRAVAX.  The FDA analyzed a sample from one lot of HYDRAVAX 45-capsule bottles (Lot # 2458, Exp # 07/16) and found the presence of an undeclared ingredient.  All lots of that product, which were distributed nationwide in retail stores and mail order, are now being recalled.

The ingredient not listed on the packaging label is classified as a diuretic—a prescription drug.  Possible effects of using a diuretic include an electrolyte imbalance due to water loss, a significant concern. Consumers are being warned not to use HYDRAVAX capsules.

Adverse symptoms include: polyuria, nausea, vomiting, weakness, lassitude, fever, flushed face, and hyperactive deep tendon reflexes. Excessive doses of diuretics may elicit hyperkalemia, dehydration, nausea, vomiting and weakness and possibly hypotension. Overdosing with a diuretic has been associated with hypokalemia, hypochloremia, hyponatremia, dehydration, lethargy and gastrointestinal irritation.

No illnesses or consumer complaints have been reported to date in connection with this issue. Consumers should immediately contact their physician or healthcare provider if they have experienced any problems that may be related to taking or using this drug product.

While the company tries to ascertain the source of the potential unlisted diuretic, all production of HYDRAVAX has been suspended.  The manufacturer ships the product to IQ Formulations in sealed packages with a certificate of analysis, assuring that the product contains only the lawful and legitimate listed ingredients.

All consumers who have purchased HYDRAVAX 45-capsule bottles are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
