Motor Vehicle Deaths Increase Nationwide in 2012 By Tod Aronovitz | 02/20/13 | 0 Comment

Auto accidents claimed the lives of 36,200 Americans in 2012, up 5% from 2011, according to NSC Motor Vehicle Fatality Estimates released by the National Safety Council.

Florida motor-vehicle fatalities numbered 2,442 in 2012, up from 2,372 in 2011, putting the state in third place after Texas at 3,339 and California at 2,994.

Injuries from motor vehicle accidents that required medical attention were estimated at 3.9 million in 2012, also up 5% from 2011.

In a blog post earlier this year titled “South Florida Traffic Fatalities Increased in 2012,” we reported:

“Traffic deaths in Broward County jumped 11 percent, from 154 deaths in 2011 to 171 in 2012 as of December 30th, according to early results released by the Florida Highway Patrol. Palm Beach County fared even worse, with a 17 percent to 136 deaths in 2012 from 116 in 2011.”
