Recreational Trailers Recalled for Awning Malfunctions that May Cause Personal Injury By Tod Aronovitz | 07/19/13 | 0 Comment

Two recalls, both relating to equipment failures in recreational trailers, have been announced by Augusta RV, LLC, and Kibbi LLC.

Due to a design change in the power awning motor assembly, the motor assembly screws may unknowingly shear in these vehicles. If the flaw causes that to happen, there’s a chance that the awning can unfurl unexpectedly, either while the vehicles are at rest or while in transit, increasing the risk of personal injury or a vehicle crash. As a result, owners are being instructed not to drive their vehicles until repairs can be made.

The trailers involved include:

  • Augusta’s 2013-2014 FLEX recreational trailers manufactured February 13, 2013, through April 9, 2013.
  • Kibbi’s 2013 Renegade KIT28TA trailer manufactured on April 12, 2013.

Owners of the FLEX will be notified by Augusta RV in July, and Dometic staff will replace the affected motors with new motors of a different design. Owners may contact Augusta RV at 1-574-848-0200.

For the Renegade, Kibbi will notify the owner and Dometic staff will replace the affected motor with a newly-designed one. The recall is expected to begin mid-July 2013.

Owners of both models may contact Dometic at 1-888-447-0003 for more information.
